What is a Pregnancy Resource Center?

Updated: Feb 25, 2020

Chances are unless you have been to a pregnancy resource center (PRC) you have no idea what one is. The short answer is in the name itself: Pregnancy Resource Center.

Here at the Center for Pregnancy, our goal is to offer material and emotional support to women and their families during and after their pregnancies.

How do we do this? The number one service we offer is free pregnancy tests. Urine tests are offered both by appointment and by walk-in. You can schedule a test with us as soon as you have missed your period.

We also offer peer counselling. Planned or unplanned, pregnancy has a tendency to be overwhelming. Our client advocates are here to lend a listening ear and help you think and talk through the options you face during pregnancy.

If your test at the Center for Pregnancy is positive, your peer counselor will provide you with a list of medical resources so that you can find the right medical provider to care for you during your pregnancy.

The Center for Pregnancy does offer limited ultrasounds. To receive an ultrasound here you must first have a positive pregnancy test here. You will then be put on a waiting list and contacted when an appointment is available. The Center for Pregnancy provides limited ultrasounds, not diagnostic ultrasounds.

If you feel that parenting is not the right option for you, the Center for Pregnancy offers information on adoption. Here we can help you make an adoption plan and give you information on different adoption agencies available to help you.

If you do feel that your are ready to parent we also offer parenting classes. The classes cover a wide range of topics including fetal development, prenatal care, labor, delivery, postnatal care, and caring for and raising your child. Our goal is to help equip you to be the best parent you can be.

In addition to our parenting classes, we have a men's program. Dads can find personal support in this special program. Learn about the growth of your baby, how to be a supportive partner, and how to care for your newborn.

By attending parenting classes at the Center for Pregnancy you can earn "Baby Bucks". These can be used at the Center to "purchase" items such as maternity and baby clothes, diapers, car seats, and other necessities.

If you have any questions about the services we offer or simply want to know more about the Center for Pregnancy, give us a call at 281-482-5683.
